The Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (ESSTI) is an institute in Ethiopia that leads Space Science and Technology from end to end research in all space applications, space infrastructure development, satellite development and operation, and international collaboration in Astronomy and Astrophysics, space science and application, satellite technology, Aeronautics and astronautics, earth observation and related space and science technologies.

- Associate Researcher- II
Requirements
MSc and above in Communications and Electronic Engineering, Electrical and computer engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Satellite Communications Engineering, Satellite Systems Engineering, or other relevant fields of study with work experience of 4 years and above in the fields specified.
Responsibility
- Conduct researches in the design and development of small to medium satellite systems.
- Support to platform subsystems, payload instruments, on-board software management, satellite simulator, and ground segment operations.
- Control the proper functioning of satellites in orbit and troubleshoot in orbit satellite operational failures
- Provide inputs and review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts.
- Control ground to space communications of satellite

- Support for the commissioning of new satellites and routine operations

Requirements

Responsibility
- Satellite data access, interpretation, and analysis
- Satellite application systems and interface to terrestrial ground communication networks
- Satellite ground station operation, satellite data access, interpretation and analysis
- Develop custom software algorithms for satellite image processing for different thematic application

Requirements
- Ph.D. in observational, computational astronomy and astrophysics.
- Experience in optical observational astronomy is mandatory.
- Previous years’ work experience at research centers or universities is mandatory.
- 2-3 pages of research proposal and activities are mandatory to be submitted in the moment of application.

- Entoto Observatory operation and development, and possible development of other potential astronomical sites in Ethiopia
- Research and scientific development under the Entoto Observatory, A&A department, and the ESSTI
- Astronomical observations carried out at Entoto and data reduction
- Lecturing under the A&A department post-graduate program
- MSc and Ph.D. student’s supervision
- Coordination of research teams, groups, units, etc.
- Resources mobilization (grants, proposals, human resources, etc.), and strengthening of A&A department and ESSTI national and international collaborations
- Participation in all other activities under the Astronomy and Astrophysics department depending on the needs and person’s availability

professional Skills
- Experience in optical observational astronomy is highly needed: in research, astronomical observations, and data reduction.
- Motivation and skills for developing the optical observational astronomy at Entoto, and contribute to Entoto development are highly needed.
- Participation in international collaborations will be highly evaluated.
- Motivation and skills for scientific development in astronomy at the ESSTI will be highly evaluated.
- Previous experience in MSc and Ph.D. student’s supervisions will be highly evaluated.

Responsibility
- Operation and maintenance of telescopes and instrumentation under the Entoto Observatory.
- General functioning of Entoto Observatory.
- Further development of Entoto Observatory and other potential astronomical sites in Ethiopia.
- Technical assistance in astronomical observations.
- Possibility of coordination of the Instrumentation Unit.
- General instrumentation and technological development under the Instrumentation Unit, Astronomy and Astrophysics department, and the ESSTI in general.
- Participation in all other activities under the Astronomy and Astrophysics department depending on the needs and person’s availability.

professional Skills:
- Knowledge about telescopes and astronomical instrumentation will be highly evaluated, and applicants with this knowledge will be given full priority.
- Previous experience in the coordination of teams and units will be highly evaluated.
- Previous experience in mechanical/electrical engineering is mandatory
- Knowledge in Linux/Unix system and programming skills will be appreciated

Responsibility
- Conducts research on space policies, laws, strategies, other Implementation instruments, and other related issues and publish such outputs.
- Coordinates the formulation of national space roadmap, master plan (long term strategy), and medium-term strategies,
- Conducts various assessments and evaluation on space policy and strategy implementation and come up with useful recommendations for the development of the space industry
- Devise and produce different tools and solutions to follow-up, evaluate and improve national space policy and strategy
professional Skill
- Trained and Experienced in space policy formulation, and enactment of space laws and regulations,
- Experienced in the coordination of monitoring and evaluation platforms
- Trained and Experienced in effectively utilizing various computer applications including Excel, data analysis, and other relevant ones With a good background in engineering and natural science
