Dragonfly Aerospace is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Opto-Mechanical Technician to join their Imaging team in Stellenbosch. The Opto-Mechanical Technician support the assembly, integration, and verification (AIV) of our imaging systems and associated support equipment. Additionally, they will help maintain equipment, perform quality checks, and ensure every component meets rigorous aerospace standards.
Location
This Opto-Mechanical Technician role is based in Stellenbosch, just outside Cape Town. It is a one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and integrate mechanical, opto-mechanical, and optical systems.
- Inspect and test optical components and assemblies.
- Perform rework or repairs on underperforming systems.
- Maintain, calibrate, and manage optical lab tools and test equipment.
- Assist with production kitting and procurement.
- Compile and update production documentation and data packs.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safety-compliant work environment.
- Manage relevant assets in your designated workspace.
- Support broader team objectives as needed.
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of AIV processes for imaging systems.
- Solid grounding in optical and mechanical theory.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings.
- Experience in quality control and advanced measurement methods.
- Familiarity with environmental testing and metrology tools.
- Basic programming ability (Python, C/C++ advantageous).
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- National Diploma in a related field (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics or Physics). A Bachelor’s in Technology is preferred.
- 0–5 years’ experience in a relevant technical role.
- Programming exposure (Python, C/C++, etc.) is a plus.
- Proficiency in English; Afrikaans comprehension is beneficial.
