About Dunia

Africa confronts substantial challenges in fully leveraging Earth Observation (EO) data to advance sustainable development initiatives. Despite the considerable potential of space technologies to address critical continental issues, including environmental monitoring, agricultural management, urban planning, and disaster preparedness, the region faces significant structural limitations in infrastructure, connectivity, and technical expertise. These barriers substantially impede access to and effective utilisation of EO services, consequently delaying progress in essential developmental sectors.

In response to these challenges, GeoVille, in strategic collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), launched Dunia in November 2023. This innovative cloud-based platform was specifically designed to address the unique obstacles that African nations encounter when accessing and utilising Earth observation data.

Dunia’s architecture centralises data processing capabilities, effectively eliminating the requirement for local infrastructure investments. The platform provides users with comprehensive tools to process Copernicus data directly from cloud-based resources. This cloud-centric approach significantly reduces dependency on high-capacity local servers and computational resources, thereby democratizing access to advanced Earth observation capabilities across the African continent.

Through Dunia’s streaming solution, organisations can now access, process, and analyse Earth observation data with unprecedented speed and efficiency, enabling more responsive and informed decision-making for sustainable development initiatives.
