The OOSA-Office of the Director internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, pending the needs of the office and the intern’s availability. Furthermore, the internship is unpaid and full-time. In addition, the intern will work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Given the current situation due to COVID-19, selected interns may work remotely from their country of nationality/residence subject to travel restrictions in effect both in their home country and Austria, as well as the availability of affordable air or surface transportation as applicable.
Responsibilities
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background, the intern’s assigned office as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the different outreach and communication activities and events organized and/or co-led by the Office;
- Supporting the development and implementation of social media campaigns and related outputs;
- Conducting research and analysis on social media channels, media, outreach and space-related matters;
- Drafting speeches, presentations, briefing notes, talking points, articles, fact sheets, press releases and other documents relating to space activities, the activities of the Office, and internal as well as external events;
- Liaising with media and other relevant external parties and drafting responses to interview queries;
- Contributing to updating the Office’s website, including content management and research;
- Providing general administrative support, including preparing meeting minutes; and
- Performing other tasks as necessary.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) recently have graduated with a university degree (as defined above);

- [OPTIONAL] Educational background in communications, marketing, graphic design, development studies or international relations is desirable;
- Being computer literate in standard software applications; proficiency in social media assets is an advantage;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advanced course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English, i.e. oral and written proficiency is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
