Register for the 2023 RCMRD Map Competition

The Regional Centre For Mapping Of Resources For Development (RCMRD) is organising and launching its 2023 Map Competition, themed ‘’Environmental and Biodiversity Conservation Efforts to Protect our Natural Resources’’, on 28 June 2023. The competition aims to promote the use of maps and Earth Observation and create awareness of the data-sharing geo-portals and observatories to allow users to discover GIS datasets and creatively use them to develop innovative solutions.

Participating Countries

Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Award Prizes

The entries can encompass any initiatives connected to environmental and biodiversity conservation efforts aimed at safeguarding or raising awareness about our natural resources.

School Category (Per School Award)
Professional Category (Individual Award)

Furthermore, individuals will cast their votes to select the winner from the top three entries in each of the four aforementioned sub-categories, as determined by the panel of judges. Furthermore, all the winners will be granted a one-year personal use license for Esri ArcGIS and will also receive a certificate from RCMRD.

In addition, two online webinars will be held to explain how to use the various data sources and showcase examples of the different submission formats that can be used. The webinars will run between  26 July 2023 and 30 Aug 2023 at 11:00 East African Time. The submission link will be available once the competition begins.

How to Apply

Interested individuals must register here. Furthermore, all entries must be submitted by 30 September 2023 and must be from an ArcGIS Online Account. In addition, the entries must be shared with the public and visible without requiring a login.
