The global space sector is undergoing a profound transformation driven by NewSpace initiatives, artificial intelligence, Earth observation technologies, geospatial intelligence, and digital innovation. While these developments are reshaping the space economy worldwide, they are also creating unprecedented opportunities for emerging nations to strengthen their technological capabilities, accelerate sustainable development, and build strategic autonomy.
The fifth edition of the SPACESTAR Conference (SPACESTAR’26) will take place from 11 to 13 November 2026 in Tunis, Tunisia, bringing together researchers, policymakers, governmental institutions, international organisations, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators from Africa, the Mediterranean region, and beyond.
More than a scientific conference, SPACESTAR’26 is positioned as a platform dedicated to the role of emerging countries in the evolving global space ecosystem. The event will explore how space technologies can support economic growth, environmental resilience, food security, disaster risk management, digital transformation, and technological sovereignty.
A distinctive feature of this edition is its focus on building African and Mediterranean capacities through international cooperation, knowledge sharing, innovation ecosystems, and policy development. Across its scientific, technical, and strategic sessions, the conference will showcase practical pathways for transforming space-based data and technologies into actionable solutions for sustainable development.
The programme will cover a broad range of themes, including space sciences, satellite technologies, Earth observation, GNSS, artificial intelligence, geospatial intelligence, digital twins, climate resilience, agriculture, water management, disaster risk reduction, and space governance. It will also feature discussions on space policy, regulation, industrial development, and international partnerships aimed at strengthening the participation of emerging nations in global space activities.
Through keynote lectures, scientific presentations, panels, round tables, and cooperation initiatives, SPACESTAR’26 will foster dialogue between academia, government, industry, and international organisations while promoting new collaborative opportunities across Africa and the Mediterranean region.
