The Astrophysics Research Centre (ARC) at the School of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal, is offering a postdoctoral position in theoretical relativistic astrophysics, focusing on neutron stars and pulsars. Candidates with prior experience in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Physics of neutron stars;
- Nuclear matter of the core/crust;
- Transport properties of dense matter;
- Magnetic field evolution of neutron stars; and
- Pulsar magnetosphere.
Furthermore, the successful applicant will be expected to engage in full-time postdoctoral studies under the supervision of a member or members of the academic staff in ARC and will work closely with the research group and provide research assistance on various related projects; undertake literature surveys, develop theoretical models, and assist with the supervision of postgraduate activities.
Requirements
- PhD in Theoretical Astrophysics/Physics obtained no more than five years before the starting date of the appointment;
- Must be based at UKZN Westville campus for the duration of the scholarship;
- An adequate number of good publications in the relevant area of expertise;
- Knowledge and experience in the field of theoretical relativistic astrophysics; and
- The successful applicant will be expected to engage in full-time postdoctoral studies under the supervision of a member or members of the academic staff in ARC.
