The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) is recruiting a Compute Infrastructure Group Lead to its facility in Cape Town, Western Cape on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will support, plan, organise, direct and control the activities of Compute Infrastructure group including physical and human resources
Key Responsibilities
- Experience managing complex hardware and software engineering projects;
- Lead and manage the cybersecurity, computing infrastructure and networks teams;
- Exposure to IT security best practices;
- Provide direction on infrastructure projects in particular cybersecurity and networks;
- Promulgate IT security policies across the science and business units;
- Provide strategic assistance with design, specifications and procurement of computer infrastructure;
- Ensure meaningful contributions to the construction of SKA and SKA1 projects; and
- Ensure that the SARAO and other partner sites cybersecurity, networks and compute infrastructure needs are adequately addressed.
Key Requirements:
Qualification:
- Masters in Computer Science or equivalent; and
- ITIL Foundation/specialist or equivalent.
Experience:
- 10 years managerial experience in a hardware and software engineering environment.
Knowledge
- Management processes;
- Managing IT infrastructure projects;
- Stakeholder engagement;
- Hardware and software engineering;
- IT Security and best practices;
- Industry regulatory requirement.
- Ability to communicate complex information correctly; and
- Resourcing.
