SARAO is Hiring a Compute Infrastructure Group Lead

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) is recruiting a Compute Infrastructure Group Lead to its facility in Cape Town, Western Cape on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will support, plan, organise, direct and control the activities of Compute Infrastructure group including physical and human resources

Key Responsibilities
  • Experience managing complex hardware and software engineering projects;
  • Lead and manage the cybersecurity, computing infrastructure and networks teams;
  • Exposure to IT security best practices;
  • Provide direction on infrastructure projects in particular cybersecurity and networks;
  • Promulgate IT security policies across the science and business units;
  • Provide strategic assistance with design, specifications and procurement of computer infrastructure;
  • Ensure meaningful contributions to the construction of SKA and SKA1 projects; and
  • Ensure that the SARAO and other partner sites cybersecurity, networks and compute infrastructure needs are adequately addressed.
Key Requirements:
Qualification:
  • Masters in Computer Science or equivalent; and
  •  ITIL Foundation/specialist or equivalent.
Experience:
  • 10 years managerial experience in a hardware and software engineering environment.
Knowledge
  • Management processes;
  • Managing IT infrastructure projects;
  • Stakeholder engagement;
  • Hardware and software engineering;
  • IT Security and best practices;
  • Industry regulatory requirement.
  • Ability to communicate complex information correctly; and
  • Resourcing.
