CPUT is Hiring a Director of F’SATI & ASIC

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is recruiting a Director to head the French South African Institute of Technology (F’SATI) and African Space Innovation Centre (ASIC).

Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of the entities strategy through:

  • Strategic and operational leadership in the development and management of the entities within the strategic frameworks of Government, the University and the F’SATI Board, and in line with the objectives and priorities of the institution;
  • Responsible for the strategic operational and financial sustainability of both F’SATI and ASIC;
  • Ensure the growth of the entities within South Africa, SADEC, Africa and Globally;
  • Development of strategic collaborative partnerships, both locally and internationally, to expand the capabilities of the centre and its opportunities;
  • Create synergies within the Higher Education, Government and relevant industry sectors to create innovative space-based solutions to societal needs for the sustainable socio-economic development of Africa;
  • Development and transfer knowledge by creating intellectual property; and 
  • Lecture on Masters in Satellite programme.

Furthermore, the incumbent will be expected to operate at the Professorial level to:

  • Develop and lead research and innovation in F’SATI/ASIC;
  • Successful recruitment and supervision of postgraduate students;
  • Strengthen collaborations and successful research external funding;
  • Contribute to teaching & learning, research & innovation, and community engagement;
  • Incorporate research outcomes into the academic project; and 
  • Lecture on Masters in Satellite programme.
Minimum Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronics/Computer/related). 
  • At least six years experience in a leadership and management capacity (Institute/Centre/Department) in the higher education sector or leadership and management in a relevant industry or a combination of the two;
  • Successful supervision of Masters and Doctoral students;
  • A track record of accredited and peer-reviewed publications;
  • Successful track record of external national and international funding;
  • Recognised as a global leader in research and innovation.;
  • Substantive knowledge of and experience of the Space Industry in South Africa;
  • A track record of having successfully written, negotiated and concluded funding proposals;
  • Experience in reporting to external funders; and
  • Established contacts within the Space industry and in associated government and non-governmental organisations.

The selection panel’s recommendation and assessment will be aligned with the institution’s promotion criteria for the Professorial level and reserves the right to appoint at the Associate Professorial level. Also, the incumbent will be expected to be NRF rated or become rated within a reasonable period of up to three years after appointment.

  • Exposure to the African Space industry and the international space industry
  • Experience in the development of training and education programmes.
