OSS is the leader of the consortium which in North Africa is developing geospatial decision-support services for the sustainable management of terrestrial natural resources. On January 20, 2021, it organized with the University of Nouakchott Al-Aasriya – UNA, its partner in the consortium, a restitution workshop for Mauritanian users.
Three operational services based on Earth Observation have been developed by OSS (Sahara and Sahel Observatory) as part of the GMES – North Africa Consortium project:
- Service 1: Monitoring of water withdrawals in irrigated areas;
- Service 2: Monitoring and evaluation of land degradation;
- Service 3: Seasonal monitoring, early warning and agricultural assessment.
Online demonstrations of the two service platforms MISBAR and MISLAND for end-users were provided by OSS experts MM Zoungrana and Haj Taieb.
Discussions with Mauritanian partners made it possible to collect their feedback on the two service platforms, the handling of which will be facilitated within the framework of the next capacity building sessions scheduled by the project by March 2021.
