SARAO is Recruiting

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) is one of the world’s largest research infrastructure projects. After successfully completing the MeerKAT radio telescope, SARAO is about to move to the next stage of its development, the MeerKAT Extension project. Consequently, SARAO needs talented individuals with a drive to build, analyse, engineer, develop, investigate scientifically and advance technologically.

Working as part of a coordinated global effort will expose successful applicants to some of the world’s most advanced engineering technologies and scientific programming. Thus, SARAO requires applicants to have a strong interest in scientific research infrastructure and the ability to adapt to new technologies and highly advanced techniques swiftly.

Applicants with skills in Python, Linux, CUDA, HPC, Radio Frequency and other high-performance computing disciplines are ideal for these positions. For all of the software positions, Kanban is the methodology of choice. However, successful candidates will be working within a broader ecosystem using SAFe as a top-level framework.

The following positions are available to expand the existing team:

  • Nine Senior Software Engineers and Developers;
  • Three Software Engineers and Developers;
  • One SRC Senior Software Engineer;
  • One Science Resource Centre Lead;
  • One Fibre Technologist, and
  • One Power/Senior Electrical Engineer.

To apply, send your CV to careers@ska.ac.za quoting the position you are applying for in the subject line.

The remuneration package is competitive and includes standard company benefits. Please note that the advertised positions are all fixed-term contracts.
