The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is hosting its International Project/Programme Management Committee (IPMC) Young Professionals Workshop under the auspices of the 73rd International Astronautical Convention in Paris. The workshop seeks to gather input from young professionals in the international space
community to gain the knowledge necessary to better develop and empower the next generation workforce and build on work done at previous congresses. It will hold on Saturday 17 September 2022.

The IAF also invites affiliated organisations to nominate delegates for this workshop and represent their views in this international forum. The Call for Delegates and Statement of Work will soon be available on the workshop page of the IAF website.

Delegates for this workshop must actively engage in the IAC on the day of the workshop as
well as attend the remainder of the IAC. Furthermore, young professionals must be aged 35 years and under and have at least one year’s experience on a project team and/or in the aerospace industry. A diversity of backgrounds (e.g. engineering, management, science, etc.) is encouraged in order to produce thoughtful and well-rounded discussions, observations and recommendations that will be presented to the IPMC. Delegates will be working in teams on the workshop topics via skype, email, Webex, etc. prior to the workshop. The IAF envisions that this work will kick off in early May 2022.

For the 2022 workshop, the Workshop Organising Committee and IPMC are finalizing the research topics. As such the topics will include the following areas:

  • Commercial space: challenges and opportunities
  • Digital Transformation and Digital Governance
  • Project management and workforce wellbeing in a VUCA world
  • International cooperation and organizational diversity in space projects
  • Sustainability of space projects

The exact topic titles and descriptions will be available in the Statement of Work.
As a result, the IAF encourages young professionals to use their first-hand experience, their informed opinions and their fresh ideas to provide an insightful analysis of the research areas. IAF will compile and distribute the final results to the IPMC members, to all IAF member organizations and to the general public, with the confidence that workshop outcomes will contribute to fostering the strength and ability of space organizations to develop and empower the next generation workforce.
