Space for Humanity is a nonprofit organization founded in 2017 to create a positive social impact on the world. It begins by enabling global citizens from all backgrounds to become astronauts – Citizen Astronauts – offering the opportunity to experience the cognitive shift in worldview that occurs when seeing the Earth from space.
Each of the citizen astronauts maintains a commitment to creating positive social impact in their communities. Space for Humanity cannot send everyone to space – however, they can create ripple effects using these spaceflights. If selected, Space for Humanity will train and support you in developing these ventures.
After training and developing your social impact initiative, you will go to space. The date of this is dependent on the technology of spaceflight providers as the first launch has been planned for 2021.
Upon returning from suborbital spaceflight, citizen astronauts will have one (1) year to launch their social impact venture, as a Space for Humanity Ambassador. The theory of change is guided by the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs) – a blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet. The UN-SDGs include 17 urgent global challenges. Space for Humanity believes that through group experience and a diverse selection process, this can help many more people understand the positive value of space exploration and why we must look after “Spaceship Earth”.
