The Faculty of Engineering and Environment of Northumbria University is passionate about the principles and applications of Science and Technology in all its forms and strives to be excellent in research, teaching, and innovation. The University is, therefore, receiving applications for the position of a Professor/ Associate professor in Physics.
The department has particular strengths in five core groups: Renewable Energy Technologies and Materials (RETM), Smart Materials and Surfaces Laboratory (SMSL), Solar Physics, Mathematics of Complex and Nonlinear Phenomena (MCNP) and Optical Communications Research Group (OCRG). The candidate who will be working within the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering (MPEE), will provide expertise in an area of Physics or Electrical Engineering to further enhance research, teaching, and entrepreneurial activities.
The faculty is interested in hearing from candidates with cross-disciplinary strengths in energy devices, optics/ photonics, smart materials or solar-system science.
As a senior Academic colleague, the candidate will assist the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor to maintain, enhance and improve the University’s national and international reputation in the academic field. He/she must demonstrate continuing academic attainment and achievement and provide academic leadership (of your subject and associated colleagues), through active contribution to the discipline, work of the Faculty and the University. This will include contributing to significant change within the practice, the discipline, profession and/or community at regional, national and international levels.
To be successful in this role, candidates will have externally recognized research outputs of quality that are internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance and rigor, and demonstrable success in securing research funding. Candidates should also demonstrate academic leadership experience and strong standing with external bodies and networks in your field.
