The Department of Astronomy at the University of Cape Town is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer on a three-year contract. Applications are sought from scientists whose research interests lie in multi-wavelength stellar astrophysics or extragalactic astronomy. Preference will be given to applicants whose research interests complement or include existing research programmes within the Department of Astronomy.

Requirements at Lecturer level:
• A Ph.D. in astronomy or related discipline;
• Experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or honours level;
• A track record of research in observational astronomy.

Advantageous:
• A good publication record in refereed journals.

Requirements at Senior Lecturer level:
• A Ph.D. in astronomy or related discipline;
• Lecturing experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
• A track record of research in observational astronomy with a good publication record in refereed journals;
• Successfully supervised postgraduate students at MSc and/or Ph.D. level.

Responsibilities:
• Teaching of courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels;
• Develop research;
• Supervision of postgraduate students.

The annual remuneration packages for 2020, including benefits, are as follows:
Lecturer: R730 510
Senior Lecturer: R887 294
