Planète Univers Pedagogical Center (CP2U) of the Côte d'Azur Observatory, whose observation data will be used at the Astronomy School in Dakar.

Astronomie au Senegal is organising training on observation from robotic telescopes and data analysis in Python.

The training will consist of plenary sessions on scientific and technical topics in line with scientific foresight for astronomy in Senegal: analysis of observation data using telescopes, photometry, sensors, star occultations, variable stars. The practical work will make it possible to train in the Python programming language (free) and in the Python modules commonly used by astrophysicists by analysing data acquired with the Planète Univers Pedagogical Center (C2PU) of the Côte d’Azur Observatory.

The training will take place at the Cheikh Anta Diop University – the Virtual University of Senegal on the 26th-27th of May 2021. The training is open to Senegalese students at the Master’s level in scientific fields.

The objectives for the training include

  • Training in the analysis of observation data obtained with telescopes.
  • Training in Python programming and astronomical data processing with Astropy (python module dedicated to data analysis in Astronomy).

CONFIGURATION REQUIRED FOR TRAINING

To take the training in the best conditions, the organisers recommend that interested persons have a laptop, with a minimum of 100 GB available and 8 GB of RAM.
To install Anaconda for python package management, the organisers also recommend one of the following operating systems on your computer:
