Call for Application: IAF-CSA Space Universities CubeSat Challenge

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and its Space University Administrative Committee (SUAC), in collaboration with the Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA), have announced the second edition of the Space Universities CubeSat Challenge (SUCC) themed “CubeSat, a Platform for New Technology Verification and International Cooperation, an exclusive contest for a Free Launch of a CubeSat operated by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT)

Purpose

  • Foster  innovative ideation of students around the world;
  • Improve astronautics innovative scientific research, theoretical-practical, and practical engineering capabilities; and
  • Contribute to the growth of space knowledge and support innovative talents.

Topic

The topics of the challenge are as follows:

  • CubeSat Innovation Missions;
  • Conceptual CubeSat Platform and Component Innovation System Design;
  • Innovative CubeSat Payloads and Applications;
  • Other New Concepts, New Ideas and New Viewpoints of CubeSat Design and Applications; and
  • Artificial Intelligence and CubeSat Technology.

How to register

  • IAF-CSA SUCC 2.0 is open to all IAF Member Universities;
  • Applications must be submitted to IAF at award@iafastro.org by 15 June 2023 (in English);
  • Participation and registration are free of charge; and
  • Non-IAF Member Universities are strongly encouraged to apply for IAF Membership to be eligible and qualify to win a free launch.

Application process

The application must contain the following:

  • Information sheet and work template;
  • Description of bidding organisation and background experience in CubeSats-related projects (if available);
  • Description of proposed CubeSat mission;
  • Description of available facilities (e.g. integration and test facilities, ground station);
  • Funding and readiness status; and
  • For Non-IAF Member Universities, please send proof of IAF Membership application.
Selection process

A dedicated Committee will review all proposals and select the winners. In addition, please refer to Become an IAF member to begin the application process and learn more about the numerous benefits of becoming an IAF Member. 

Furthermore, only universities that commence the IAF Membership application process will be eligible for the competition.
