DARA Big Data is organising the Africa Data Science Intensive (DSI) programme. The programme will be a hands-on skills training data science course. Furthermore, it will involve solving real-world problems. In the DSI programme, participants will master the data science process. This includes statistics and data wrangling and advanced topics like machine learning and data storytelling. Participants will master the above by working on real projects. These projects include the following:
- Practical Artificial Intelligence;
- Management of data science projects;
- ETL and deployment of Al systems;
- Business problem-solving skills;
- Computer Science fundamentals; and
- Machine Learning fundamentals (supervised and unsupervised learning).
The course requires any of the following: Honours, Masters or PhD in Science, Engineering or Mathematics or equivalent industry experience.
Furthermore, the course will run from January till May 2022 at the workshop venue in Capetown. The exact days are yet to be determined. The course will last for 11 weeks; this includes 3 three-week online modules (25-30 hours/week) and a two-week in-person workshop.
In addition, scholarships are available to cover tuition and travel and living expenses to attend the in-person component. Consequently, qualified African applicants will receive this scholarship.
