The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) intends to implement a Research Grant (RG) Programme in Kenya. The RG will contribute to Kenya’s socio-economic development by promoting capacity building and linkages between the public and private sectors.

Consequently, KSA invites private firms to submit proposals to benefit from a Research Grant (RG) on developing a mobile app for Landcover data collection. The RG seeks to nurture and support newly established and budding companies which have been in operation for less than 5 years.

The project team will be working in software development and will adopt a software development model. Furthermore, the tasks would consist of web development and Application Programming Interface (API) development and integration. It would also include mobile app development, database design and development as well as software testing.

The beneficiaries are to be private companies with less than five years of existence in the industry. Furthermore, the companies are to have no less than five staff members. The staff members are to have a background in computer science, IT, software development, GIS or any other related field.

Furthermore, the RG is reserved for Youth, Women and Persons with Disabilities. In addition, the deadline for receiving the proposal is Tuesday 7 December 2021 at 4.00 pm. You can make your submissions to the address below. Alternatively, you can submit electronically through this address.

KSA shall engage a panel of judges to review the proposals and presentations they receive to select the best three proposals. The best three proposals will subsequently receive the grants. The companies shall be responsible for choosing project members who shall consist of the respective companies’ supervisory and subordinate staff. The staff members are to be the key developers involved in the Land Cover Data Collection Application.

You can find more information regarding the project in the terms of reference.
