NewSpace Systems (NSS) is an advanced manufacturer of robust satellite subsystems and components. It is particularly strong in the area of Attitude Determination and Control Solutions (ADCS), with over 30 years of experience in the industry.
NSS is one of the fast-growing startups in the NewSpace sector. It has facilities in both South Africa and the United Kingdom.
The company has five open positions: Test Technician, Assembly Technician, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Product Engineer, and Design Engineer.
1. Test Technician
This is a full-time role based in South Africa and reports to the Test Lead.
Qualifications:
• NDIP/B-TECH in Electronic Engineering from a recognised institution
• Requires a car and valid driver’s license
Experience (ideally within aerospace or defence industry):
• Testing and preferable design of high-reliability electronic products
• Design and implementation of test equipment
• Ability to interpret mechanical and electronic drawings
• Ability to effectively use off-the-shelf test equipment
• Appreciation and experience of ISO9001 requirements
Additional knowledge areas that would strengthen the application
• Testing of Optical/Optomechanical systems
• Testing of radio frequency products, and knowledge of test equipment
• Cleanroom, ESD and optical assembly environment

2. Assembly Technician
This is a full-time position based in South Africa and reports to the Production Manager.
Qualifications
• Post-secondary training in electronic engineering technology.
Experience
• At least five years assembling complex and high-reliability electro-mechanical equipment (preferably to IPC-3 level).
Prerequisites
• Appreciation of ISO9001 requirements.
• Familiarity with working in a highly controlled assembly environment such as military or medical equipment.
• Ability to work to tight schedules while maintaining high-quality manufacture.
• Good written and oral communications skills.
• Ability to work with small components and assemblies extensively using a microscope daily.
• Ability to interpret mechanical and electronic drawings.
• Be self-motivated and have a willingness to learn.
• Good attention to detail.
• Ability to manage time and work to deadlines.
The post holder will be required to interact frequently and effectively with other Company team members.
3. Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
This is a full-time position based in South Africa and reports to the CEO.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in relevant Engineering field;
• Master’s Degree or equivalent in relevant Engineering field would be an added advantage
• Demonstratable experience in high-tech and high-value (multimillion-rand) project implementation & management
• Deep knowledge of development for the space environment, including the use of ECSS processes
• Knowledge of environmental test methods and practices (e.g. Dynamic, Vibration, EMC, radiation, Thermal Vacuum)
Experience & Knowledge:
• 8+ (eight) plus years of engineering experience including project management, in a satellite engineering environment or similar, of which more than three years has been in a senior engineering management role
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a manufacturing/production environment

4. Product Engineer
This a full-time position based in South Africa and reports to the Product Manager.
Qualifications:
• BSc(ENG), BEng, in Mechatronics Engineering (or Electrical and Electronic) from a recognised institution
Experience & Knowledge:
• 5 -8 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in electronics hardware design (Preferably in Altium Designer)
• Good knowledge of analogue and digital electronics.
• Embedded software development, integration and testing. (C/C++)
• Working knowledge of python.
• Mechanical design and manufacturing methods are required
• (Preferably in Solid Works)
• Experience with formal configuration management princples.
Additional knowledge areas that would strengthen the application:
• Knowledge of satellite subsystems and the space environment.
• Experience with the ECSS product development and environmental testing standards

5. Design Engineer
This is a permanent position that would be responsible for new electro-mechanical product design, development and verification on various projects working within a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications:
• B.Sc/B.Eng degree in Engineering (preferably electronic, mechanical or mechatronic) from a recognized institution.
Experience (ideally within aerospace or defence industry):
• High-reliability electronic product design, realisation and environmental testing (>3 years)
• Schematic creation and simulation (>3 years) (preferably Altium Designer)
• Embedded software development (>3 years) (C, C++)
• Mechanical design (preferably Solid Works)
Additional knowledge areas that would strengthen the application:
• Masters Degree
• Optical/Optomechanical system design
• Python programming and realization (>3years)
• FPGA development (VHDL based) (>3 years)
• Thermal and/or structural analysis
• Project Management (MSProject or other)
