Register for South Africa’s Inaugural Africa Space Law & Policy Conference

The inaugural Africa Space Law & Policy Conference, hosted by the University of Pretoria’s Department of Public Law in collaboration with the McGill Institute of Air and Space Law at McGill University, and co-hosted by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), the Department of Trade, Industry & Competition (DTIC), and the South African National Space Agency (SANSA), will take place on 28-29 May 2026 in Pretoria, bringing together policymakers, legal practitioners, academics, and industry leaders shaping Africa’s space sector.

Conference Theme and Focus

Under the theme “Laying Firm Legal Foundations for the Sustainable Development of Africa’s Space Economy,” the conference will explore how international, regional, and national legal frameworks can support innovation, governance, and sustainable growth in Africa’s rapidly evolving space landscape.

The two-day event will address critical questions facing the continent’s space sector, including regulatory harmonisation, licensing frameworks, spectrum management, liability regimes, and the integration of African space activities within international legal structures.
