The Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL) in conjunction with GMES and Africa through the Wetland Assessment and Monitoring Platform for Transboundary River Basins in Southern Africa (WeMAST) project, has announced a training course on Earth Observation (EO) applications in wetland monitoring and assessment.
 By the end of the training, participants are expected to produce the following outputs:
- Understanding the use of geospatial tools and their application in wetland mapping and assessment;
- Understanding of the role of EO data in wetland mapping and assessment;
- Delineate wetland extents and their temporal variability in sub-watersheds within river basins using EO data; and
- Assess wetland condition changes using EO data.
Eligible Participants
- River Basin Organizations;
- National Water/ Environmental Authorities;
- Academic and Research institutions;
- Private sector;
- Local communities’ representatives;
- Non- governmental organisations; andÂ
- Women in natural and water resources management.
Mode of TrainingÂ
The training will take place in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. Participants must bring their laptop computers with GIS and Remote Sensing Analysis capabilities. The participants will be provided with a training kit and documents.
