SANSA has Multiple Openings for DE Africa Program Management Office

The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) has openings for multiple roles. These positions result from SANSA’S partnership with Digital Earth Africa to establish a Program Management Office.

The positions include 

DE Africa: Programme Office Manager

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for successfully delivering the DE Africa work program, comprising several projects, to achieve defined goals. The Programme Office Manager has a broad focus, which includes managing the delivery of DE Africa objectives and outcomes. Furthermore, the successful candidate will oversee and support all administrative duties in the office. They will also ensure that the office is operating smoothly. In addition, the Programme Office Manager will supervise office budgets; liaise with staff, suppliers and clients; implement and maintain procedures/office administrative systems. DE Africa: Managing Director

Reporting to the governing board and working closely with the Chair(s) of the Board and the SANSA Earth Observation Managing Director, the DE Africa Managing Director will be responsible for;

  • Overall leadership of Digital Earth (DE) Africa, including the Program Management Office (PMO), and delivering approved work plans, according to the priorities and strategies set by the governing board;
  • Promoting and supporting DE Africa’s published principles whilst delivering on its Mission;
  • Developing strategy and implementing board-approved strategies;
  • Ensuring organisational performance, including that work packages meet their objectives and deliver the expected outcomes;
  • Working closely with DE Africa’s governing board and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to ensure effective engagement and communications between the Board, the TAC and the PMO;
  • Managing key stakeholder relationships at the executive level, particularly with implementing partners;
  • Accountability for the funds spent by the PMO and delivering the approved work plan within the specified budget.

DE Africa: Lead Scientist – Product Development

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Lead Scientist-Product Development will be responsible for;

  • Providing leadership and strategic guidance to the scientific, research and technical operations of the DE Africa program;
  • Identifying emerging issues and developing new processes, technologies and products and services for the DE Africa platform;
  • Providing deep knowledge, expertise and guidance on the development, evaluation and use of earth observations and geospatial data;
  • Staying abreast of the latest technological advances and industry trends to further inform the scientific work program;
  • Owning the development and management of the DE Africa work program in consultation with key partners and stakeholders;
  • Defining and leading the development of the technology roadmap in consultation with key partners and stakeholders;

DE Africa: Head of Operations

Reporting to the DE Africa Managing Director, the Head of Operations will be responsible for;

  • Managing the resources dedicated to the Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure Work Packages are delivered within specified timeframes and achieve the expected benefits;
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the PMO;
  • Working closely with Implementing Partners and the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to ensure those bodies are effectively engaging and communicating with the PMO;
  • Coordinating resources across all organisations involved in the delivery of Digital Earth Africa (DE Africa);
  • Work with the DE Africa Managing Director to implement DE Africa program governance and support business development activities; and
  • Managing relationships with funding partners and key stakeholders of DE Africa at the appropriate level.

DE Africa: Communications Lead

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Communications Lead will be responsible for;

  • Applying a creative, innovative, and professional approach to communication for this new and high-profile programme and developing frameworks and strategies that contribute to the broader DE Africa engagement activities;
  • Managing the communication requirements for DE Africa through a strategic, culturally aware, and stakeholder-centric approach, focusing on the end-user and the industries or portfolios they represent. This will include communication activities that increase the profile of DE Africa, engage government and industry sectors, support partners and articulate the benefits of the program across Africa and internationally;
  • Delivering communication activities and products for DE Africa. The Communications Lead will work across international boundaries, alongside a diverse range of professionals, including; policy officers, strategists and advisers, event coordinators, media officers, online and multimedia specialists, scientists, executives, ICT professionals, and communication counterparts in Africa; and
  • Maintaining the integrity of the DE Africa brand in all communications, including the visual identity and adherence to the programme’s vision and mission.

DE Africa: Capacity Development Lead

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the primary role of the Capacity Development Lead will be to provide technical leadership and oversight of DE Africa’s Capacity Development and User Engagement activities to strengthen partners’ operational and technical functions through the provision of high-quality, demand-driven support services. Furthermore, they will lead in the coordination and articulation of Capacity Development (CD) activities to partners across a diverse array of geographies, manage stakeholders from aligned capacity building programs in Africa and technical areas of focus towards achieving results.
