Simera Sense, a global supplier of mid- to high-resolution Earth observation cameras for CubeSats and small satellites, is looking for a Senior Electronic Systems Engineer to join its team in Somerset West, South Africa. The company’s cameras support space missions worldwide, and the team operates at the cutting edge of space-based imaging technology.
About the Role
This position is key in developing, implementing, and monitoring the engineering process for Simera Sense’s camera systems, particularly focusing on electronics hardware and embedded firmware. The successful candidate will translate user requirements into system-level solutions that meet demanding space application standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in customer engagements to extract and define user requirements for new products.
- Support the CRM team in responding to technical queries about electronic systems and firmware.
- Conduct requirements analysis and systems engineering across the product lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain verification and validation processes and documentation.
- Lead technical design reviews and ensure adherence to formal system engineering practices.
- Contribute to the architecture of new electronic products.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: MSc in Electronic Engineering
- Experience: At least 8 years in systems engineering, with direct involvement in:
- Deriving user requirements and translating them into system requirements
- Defining verification strategies
- Working on electronic hardware and embedded software in a high-tech environment
- Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills
- Proven ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams and resolve conflicts
- Experience working in structured technical project teams
Recommended Qualifications
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ECSS (European Cooperation for Space Standardisation)
- Knowledge of the space systems development environment
- Other Requirements: Willingness to travel to Simera Sense’s international offices as project demands arise
