The School of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) invites suitable candidates to apply for a position as an Associate/Senior Lecturer in Astronomy. The position will be at Westville Campus, South Africa. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and postgraduate level courses, actively participate in research activities, grow the astronomy research programmes of the school, and carry out some administrative tasks as determined by the academic discipline leader, the line manager for this post.
Requirements
Associate Professor
- A PhD degree focused on Astrophysics or Cosmology;
- Experience in teaching at a tertiary institution;
- A current and sustained research publication record in observational extragalactic astronomy and cosmology as evidenced by SAPSE/ISI journal publications;
- Successful supervision of postgraduate students, including PhD students in the areas of observational extragalactic astronomy and cosmology;
- Demonstrated ability to attract external research funds.
Senior Lecturer
- A PhD degree focused on Astrophysics or Cosmology;
- Experience in teaching at a tertiary institution;
- A current and sustained research publication record in observational extragalactic astronomy and cosmology as evidenced by SAPSE/ISI journal publications;
- Successful supervision of postgraduate students in the areas of cosmology and observational extragalactic astronomy.
