The African Astronomical Society (AfAS) invites nominations for individuals to be appointed as members of its committees. As the term of service for the new Executive Committee has officially begun, AfAS is looking to strengthen the membership of the various committees in support of AfAS’s mission and mandate. While the Executive Committee will continue to ensure good governance and adhere to values of best practice, the established committees will take a more hands-on approach and be in charge of specific projects or areas of development for society.

The committees of the society are:

AfAS is a progressive and inclusive society that seeks to attract committed individuals who will be dedicated to realising the Society’s vision, mission, and objectives. The individuals will serve on the committee until March 2025. Given that the IAU General Assembly (GA2024) will be held in Africa for the first time in 2024, a focus of these Committees for the three years is to develop activities in support of the GA2024.

As such, the committees’ chairs will serve on the GA2024 National Organising Committee (NOC), and the committees’ work will be motivated by establishing sustainable activities for and beyond 2024, thereby leaving a legacy emanating from GA2024.
