The Embassy of France in Ethiopia and to the African Union with its Cooperation department ( Service de Coopération et d’Action Culturelle – SCAC) is funding a scholarship programme dedicated to Ethiopian Women at the PhD level in collaboration with the International Space University (ISU). This programme, aligned with the ISU research fields, aims to reinforce the Ethiopian experts’ pool in the spatial sciences field. As a result, the scholarship programme will designate the selected PhD student as a French government scholarship fellow. There shall only be one scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year.
The scholarship duration will take a sandwich format. Consequently, the Fellow will observe three stays in France of six months each and three stays in Ethiopia of six months each for fieldwork. However, the monthly allowance will only be available during the six-month stay in France. This scholarship will be for 3 years, and its maintenance is subject to the progress of the research work. At the end of each academic year, an annual report will be sent to the supervisors and to the SCAC.
The scholarship covers the following items:
- A round-trip plane ticket once a year;
- free basic registration fees to an institution of higher education in France;
- Social security coverage;
- Free visa;
- A priority access to government-subsidized student housing; and
- Monthly allowance.
Eligibility criteria
Before applying, candidates are to ensure that they meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Ethiopian Nationality;
- Have a Master’s degree;
- A good English language proficiency. The student will be asked to provide official English certification, such as the IELTS, or to have received an English-taught higher education diploma.
Application file requirements
Applicants should ensure that their applications contain the following documents:
- A detailed CV;
- A cover letter clearly stating the applicant’s PhD study project in France and their professional project after the completion of their curriculum in France and including a recap of the past research projects (1 page);
- Copies of full academic transcripts and degrees;
- ID card or passport copy;
- At least two reference letters, sent directly by the referees to ethiopie@campusfrance.org; and
- An official English certificate (Recommended)
Applicants are to submit their applications via email (in English or in French) to the Campus France Ethiopie and the Cooperation and Cultural action department of the Embassy of France in Ethiopia.
A selection committee will examine only complete applications. Furthermore, the selection process will be done jointly by a jury of specialists in the candidates’ fields of study. Candidates will undergo their interviews via Zoom on July 19, 2022, between 9 am and 5 pm UTC. Because of this, candidates are to be available for the interview.
