The African Astronomical Society (AfAS) has called for bids from interested African institutions to host the AfAS Annual Conference in 2026. The event will offer a unique opportunity for institutions across Africa to contribute to the advancement of astronomy by hosting a key community gathering and showcasing their institutions to a global audience.
Interested institutions are invited to submit their bids by 18 December 2024. In addition, the bids should address the responsibilities and expectations outlined in this document. Institutions within South Africa are not eligible to submit a bid under this call. Interested institutions must submit a comprehensive bid proposal addressing their institutional profile and motivation for hosting. They should also outline the proposed venue, budget proposal, and how they would support participants.
Key Dates
- Submission Deadline: 18 December 2024
- Notification of Successful Host: Before the 2025 Annual Conference
- Announcement of Successful Host: At the AfAS 2025 General Assembly, hosted by the University of South Africa (UNISA)
Note: Preference will be given to institutions based in African countries that demonstrate strong institutional support, financial capability, and a commitment to advancing astronomy in Africa.
