ISC Intelligence in Science is organising the second edition of the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA76) Science Summit. ISC is an advisory firm that specialises in science, technology and R&D research and policy. The summit will hold in conjunction with the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA76). The Summit will hold virtually, from 14 September – 30 September 2021. Regardless, some sessions will take place physically in New York City.

The virtual meeting aims to raise awareness of the role and contribution of science to attaining the UN’s SDGs. Furthermore, it will demonstrate initiatives that provide models for global science mechanisms and activities supporting the SDGs, particularly in science infrastructure and capacity building. Science is more than a funding prioritisation exercise: science can improve all policy-making areas. Furthermore, it can play a more critical role in achieving policy objectives and benefiting people globally, including responding to global challenges.

Engagement with policy leadership is more critical than ever; thus, UNGA76 is a unique forum for science leadership to show how policy and political leadership can benefit from science and the scientific community. Consequently, the role of non-state actors and the multilateral fora is central to this. This is because they increasingly determine how priorities are set. Thus, science needs to be part of this dialogue at an earlier stage. In addition, science ought to inform outputs through thought leadership, evidence, insights, analysis, and innovation.

Humankind can only tackle its present and future challenges through transparent, open and agile research collaboration. Thus, humankind must bring the broadest possible range of resources, expertise and perspectives to bear on solutions that will benefit people across the globe.
