Join the MIURA 5 SPARK Programme

Payload Aerospace (PLD Space), collaborating with several Spanish and international agencies including the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, invites entities to join the MIURA 5 SPARK Programme.

The MIURA 5 SPARK Programme allows educational centres, universities, institutions, and companies worldwide to participate in the first two MIURA 5 launches at no cost.

Furthermore, the MIURA 5 SPARK Programme grants students, research centres, institutions, and commercial entities access to small satellite launch services.

Selection Criteria
Impact
  • Country of origin, with first priority given to Spanish entities, followed by EU member states, NATO member states and Major Non-NATO Ally states; and
  • Type of entity, with first priority given to candidates (including consortia) comprising student teams.
Technical Considerations
  • Compliance with payload mass requirements;
  • Orbit Flexibility;
  • Compliance with the MIURA 5 Payload User Guide (to be evaluated following the Final Application);
  • Compliance with relevant technical and safety standards (to be evaluated following completion of the Statement of Compliance as part of the Final Application); and
  • Compatibility with other satellites selected (to be evaluated following the Final Application).
Programmatic Considerations
  • Launch window;
  • Schedule flexibility;
  • Satellite development plan, status (including ITU registration progress); and
  • Satellite and associated launch campaign operational risks.
Commercial Considerations
  • Candidate proposed financial contribution towards the launch; and
  • The attractiveness of the proposed mission includes its potential for future missions, cooperation with other parties, and transfer potential.
Timeline
  • The preliminary application period begins and will end on July 30;
  • The PLD Space mission management team will conduct an initial assessment and notify shortlisted applicants on August 30;
  • For primary, secondary schools, and vocational training centers, teams can register their experiment ideas to potentially fly alongside a commercial entity. There’s no pre-selection process, and proposals can be submitted until October 31;
  • Candidates whose mission proposals pass this stage will receive the MIURA 5 User Guide, which details the expected flight and maximum activity times. Additionally, they will have one month to submit their final application
  • The final selection of candidates will be announced on November 30; and
  • The launch service contracts must be signed by December 30.
Benefits

PLD Space covers mission management costs, launcher accommodation, fuel handling, transport to the launch base, and other operational expenses for the standard launch service.

Furthermore, applicants will bear the responsibility for covering the costs of meeting the technical requirements and conducting any additional safety tests for the satellite.
