The Kenya Space Agency (KSA), in collaboration with the Research Institute for Innovation and Sustainability (RIIS) and with backing from United Kingdom International Development (UKID) via the Research and Innovation Systems for Africa Fund (RISA Fund), is developing a Space Innovation Roadmap for Kenya’s space sector.

This initiative aims to gather valuable feedback from space sector experts to enhance the country’s Innovation Ecosystem.

Furthermore, the parties have invited space professionals and stakeholders to contribute their insights and participate in Kenya’s Innovation Ecosystem publicised survey.

About the Kenya Innovation Ecosystem Survey

Kenya’s Innovation Ecosystem Survey is part of Kenya’s strategic plan to position itself as a leader in the African space industry. By engaging with professionals and stakeholders, the government hopes to identify current challenges, opportunities, and areas for growth within the sector.

The Kenya Innovation Ecosystem survey comprises 19 questions aimed at gaining a comprehensive understanding of the participating companies’ activities, collaborative patterns, and operational areas.

In June 2024, the parties embarked on an initiative to review, map, and develop a roadmap for the country’s growing space innovation ecosystem. The venture came on the heels of the recent unveiling of the Kenya Space Agency Strategic Plan 2023-2027.

This collaborative effort underscores Kenya’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability within its space industry, paving the way for future advancements and partnerships in the global space community.

The KSA Strategic Plan focuses on six key areas: coordination and regulation of space activities; national space capacity development; utilisation of space services and technologies; space research, innovation, and development; resource mobilisation; and strengthening institutional capacity.

Kenya’s significant investment in research, infrastructure, data, and space-based products aims to revolutionise its space sector.

The call for participation underscores the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving innovation and economic development. Stakeholders from various backgrounds, including academia, industry, and government, are encouraged to take part in this comprehensive survey.
