The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) invites applications for the Executive Director position of its Space Science Division, based in Hermanus, South Africa. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to lead and manage the agency’s Space Science Programme while contributing to its strategic vision and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities 

The Executive Director will oversee the following areas:  

  1. Strategic Planning and Implementation: Drive the development and execution of the Space Science Programme’s strategic initiatives to meet SANSA’s objectives.  
  2. Operational Management: Ensure efficient programme delivery while maintaining financial and operational sustainability.  
  3. Enterprise Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks to safeguard the programme’s objectives.  
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Foster and maintain strategic partnerships with industry, academic, and government stakeholders.  
  5. Space Science Research: Lead and inspire innovative research aligned with national and global priorities.  
  6. Transformation Management: Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in alignment with SANSA’s goals.  

Job Requirements  

Candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience:  

  1. At least 10 years of experience in a space science, research, engineering, or technology environment, with a minimum of 3–5 years in senior or top management roles.  
  2. A PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, Engineering, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree in these disciplines will also be considered.  
  3. An MBA is advantageous.  
  4. Demonstrated exceptional research track record.
