Algeria’s national energy firm, Sonatrach has signed a cooperation agreement with the Algerian Space Agency (ALSA) to provide space data and images as well as satellite communication systems.

The agreement is part of Sonatrach’s drive to introduce new technologies to offset declining production and optimize production by deploying the latest technology in its fields. The agreement will strengthen the company’s technology acquisition and boost coordination between the two parties through the exploration of space technologies.

While speaking at a recent event in Oran, the Sonatrach CEO, Abdelmoumene Ould Kadour explained that the company is looking to use technology to improve efficiency and boost production.

Oud Kaddour says the company is intensifying efforts to deploy technologies at its brownfields and greenfields, as Sonatrach aims to raise stagnant output in both oil and gas, which make up 97% of state income. He added that partnerships with major technology developers is crucial in achieving this objective.

Sonatrach plans to unveil details of its new strategy, called Project SH2030 before the end of this month. The new strategy outlines the company’s priorities and objectives for the next decade, seeks to reform the state-owned firm and give it a long-term strategy.
