The Executive Committee of the African Astronomical Society (AfAS), is organising the AfAS Annual Conference and General Assembly. The event will be hybrid from 14 to 18 March 2022. Furthermore, the in-person meeting will take place at the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) in Cape Town, South Africa. The event will however revert to a fully digital format if the COVID-19 regulations in the country preclude in-person meetings. In addition, the organisers believe that the country will maintain the COVID-19 health protocols. Therefore the maximum number of in-person attendees at the venue can accommodate is 40 (forty) and the rest will join virtually. The hybrid format will allow those that do not wish to travel, the opportunity of attending and/or presenting a talk by virtual means.

This notice also serves as a Call for abstracts from those wanting to present a talk or poster at the conference in the following tracks:

1) Scientific

2) Education, Development, and Outreach

Interested persons must submit a brief abstract on the presentation which the Scientific Organising Committee (SOC) will consider. Abstracts must not exceed 300 Words, and the closing date for the submission of the abstracts is 10 January 2022. In addition, presenters must indicate whether they wish to present in person or virtually. AfAS commits to a diverse representation of talks at all levels including student presentations on their research work. Furthermore, AFAS anticipates that it will publish the final programme by the end of February 2022 with authors of successful abstract submission advised by mid-February 2022.
