The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC), a space-focused global non-governmental/non-profit organization and youth network, invites students and young professionals with interest in the space industry to apply to be part of the delegation for the 4th Africa Space Generation Workshop (AF-SGW2021).
The 4th Africa Space Generation Workshop (AF-SGW) is a two-day regional workshop, which brings together students and young professionals with agency and industry representatives from across the African continent. It provides an unparalleled opportunity for the future leaders of Africa’s space endeavours to proactively establish strong relationships, exchange ideas and knowledge, and to collaborate on brainstorming new ideas and solutions using space technology for the benefit of Africa. Following the success of the 3rd edition in Ethiopia in 2019 and the 2nd edition in Mauritius in 2018, this 4th edition of the Africa Space Generation Workshop will be held in Accra, Ghana, from Thursday, February 25, 2021, to Friday, February 26, 2021.
The workshop will provide a platform for future leaders of Africa’s space endeavours to proactively establish strong relationships, exchange ideas and knowledge; and to collaborate on brainstorming new ideas and solutions on using space technology for the benefit of Africa. In doing so, these young, passionate minds can help to shape the future of the African space industry. The theme for this year’s AF-SGW is “A United Africa For Space Innovation: A Step Towards Our Common Future”. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with experts from academia, companies and space agencies through plenary sessions and panels, lectures and discussions in 5 relevant working groups.
As a pre-event, the 4th African Space Generation Workshop organising team will be hosting SGAC – DARA Big Data Hackathon Competition, Webinar, Outreach program, etc.
This year the organizing team has made efforts to bring the United Nations space youth closer to the African Union Commission and heads of space agencies in African countries, not only because these institutions are the bulwark of development in the space sector in Africa but also because their leaders have a broader view and experiences that many young people need in order to grow.
Eligibility
The workshop is open to students and young professionals between the ages of 18 to 35 years old (26 February 2021), who are resident or whose country of citizenship is in Africa, and are passionate about the space Science, Application and Technologies. Past delegates have attended from all around Africa, and from a wide variety of disciplines (engineering, business, science, arts, medicine and law).
