The Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), and Learn Space Foundation (LSF) are organising a Nigerian national round as a prerequisite to the African regional rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Moot Competition. The Winners of the national rounds will subsequently receive sponsorship to represent Nigeria at the competition’s African regional rounds.
The competition will hold from 7 to 9 February 2022 at the Obasanjo Space Centre in Abuja. The organisers expect delegates from 15 institutions to compete on the 2022 facts of the moot. Furthermore, the delegates will undergo evaluation based on their memorials and oral presentations. The competition will also feature side activities including a tour at the National Space Museum and mentorship sessions with industry experts.

Consequently, the organisers will select institutions on a first come first serve basis. Nevertheless, registration will run from 22 December 2021 to 14 January 2022. In addition, the deadline for submitting memorials for the national round is 28 January 2022.

About the competition
Since its inception by the International Institute of Space Law (IISL) in 1992, the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition has grown to cover five world regions. These regions include North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa. More than 60 teams participate yearly in this competition. In addition, registered teams get exclusive online access to papers of the IISL’s Colloquium Proceedings from 2005. Furthermore, regional winners receive financial support to attend the world finals.
The IISL’s Lachs competition is unique because the International Court of Justice judges preside over the World Final. The world finals competition takes place within the IISL’s annual Colloquium. The colloquium is an event in the International Astronautical Congress which holds on a different continent each year. The Lachs competition offers an unparalleled learning experience to all teams at all levels in a fair and cordial environment
