Postdoctoral Fellowship Position in Cosmology at North-West University

The Centre for Space Research at North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom, South Africa, is seeking outstanding candidates to fill a postdoctoral fellowship position in cosmology. The appointments are initially for one year and renewable for up to three years, depending on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

The successful candidate will work in the group of Prof Amare Abebe and is expected to conduct research in theoretical, computational and/or observational aspects of gravitation and cosmology. In addition, the postdoc will be expected to actively contribute to the research team’s activities, which include the timely publication of research findings and postgraduate student supervision.

Key Requirement

For full consideration, candidates must have a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, physics or applied mathematics with a specialisation in cosmology. Candidates must have obtained their PhD at most five (5) years before the starting date of the appointment.

Interested applicants should send a CV, a list of publications and a statement of research experience and interests and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to Amare Abebe by 1 November 2022. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview shortly afterwards.

The expected starting date is 1 January 2023, but appointments as early as 1 December 2022 are also possible.
