The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), in collaboration with the Government of Japan and the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), has launched a United Nations/Japan Long-term Fellowship Programme. The Programme on Nano-Satellite Technologies (PNST) is targeted at nationals of developing countries or non-space-faring nations. The programme will provide extensive research opportunities in nano-satellite systems, utilising Kyutech’s advanced facilities.
This fellowship aims to empower non-space-faring nations to join the community of space-faring nations. In addition, successful fellows who earn their advanced degrees at Kyutech are expected to return to their home country in the hope that they will make a significant contribution to fostering the growth of space technology in their nations.Â
PNST Fellowship Programme Details
The programme will accept up to three students in the Master’s Programme (2 years duration) and three in the Doctoral Programme (3 years duration). Successful participants will be awarded a master’s or doctoral degree after successfully defending their theses. Successful candidates will enrol in the Space Engineering International Course (SEIC). Notably, this will be after passing an official entrance examination by the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology.
Moreover, selected candidates will each receive a grant under the Japanese government scholarship for research students, approximately JPY 144,000 (USD 987) per month. This will cover housing, food, local transportation, and other expenses for the duration of their fellowship. Coupled with this, each candidate will receive an economy-class air ticket. This ticket will be for travel between an international airport in the country of their nationality and an international airport in Japan used on the normal route to the accepting university.
Additionally, Kyutech will pay the fees for matriculation, tuition, and entrance examinations.Â
