The International Science Council (ISC) and its partners are organising a series of side events focussing on the contribution of science to the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit and its outcomes taking place in Washington on 12-15 December 2022. The US-Africa Summit is intended to demonstrate the United States enduring commitment to Africa and underscore the importance of U.S.-Africa relations and increased cooperation on shared global priorities.
The objectives of the meetings will be to highlight the importance of science in Africa, to foster greater collaboration between African nations and the US, and to increase investment in science for Global Health, Digital Transition, Space, Biological Diversity, Education and Skills, among other areas and to support an enabling policy and regulatory environment for science collaboration to flourish between Africa and the US.
Furthermore, the summit, which aims to demonstrate the importance of US-Africa relations, and increase cooperation on shared global priorities, has included space technology and applications to its agenda. Therefore, the side events focusing on space cooperation between Africa and the US are expected to lay the groundwork for creating and implementing a collaborative approach to have both entities harness their strengths and share capabilities in space technology and applications across several industry segments. These segments include satellite communication, climate action, food security, upstream solutions like satellite design, manufacturing and launch, and space exploration projects to grow a peaceful, mutually beneficial space relation agreement for African nations and the USA.
