SARAO is Recruiting a Procurement Officer

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) is hiring an electromagnetic compatibility engineer (EMC engineer) on a permanent contract. The successful candidate will operate the RFI measurement facilities and lead the RFI measurement and compliance team.

Key Responsibilities
  • EMC chamber operation, testing, calibration and maintenance;
  • Use of RF and EMC measurement equipment such as antennas and spectrum analysers;
  • Calibration of equipment;
  • Performing EMC tests;
  • Review of measurement data to evaluate compliance;
  • Development of workflows to receive test requests, conduct tests, analyse results, and issue permits and Certificates of Conformance (CofC);
  • Maintenance of database containing measurement data, results, permits and CofC;
  • Leading a team of engineers and technicians; and
  • Technical report writing.
Key Requirements
Qualification
  • B-Tech degree in electronic engineering or related technical field;
  • Valid driver’s licence; and
  • Six (6) years of working experience within a radio frequency interference or electromagnetic compatibility, two (2) in a supervisory capacity.
Experience
  • Radio Frequency principles and techniques;
  • Operation and calibration of EMC chambers;
  • Commercial EMC standards;
  • Military EMC standards;
  • Radio Astronomy RFI standards;
  • Analysis of EMC measurement data;
  • Calibration of EMC equipment and facilities;
  • Developing procedures;
  • Compiling of test reports and results;
  • Permitting and issuing of CofC; and
  • Quality assurance.
Knowledge
  • Radio Frequency engineering;
  • Understanding of commercial, military and Radio Astronomy EMC/RFI standards; 
  • Analysis of measurement data; and
  • Understanding of quality assurance principles.

  • Thorough and meticulous; and 
  • Good communicator with good interpersonal, presentation and report-writing skills.
