Simera Sense is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to join its team. The perfect candidate will consequently be the primary point of contact for employee-driven quality-related issues, customer and supplier inquiries, audits, and quality/operational improvement activities. In addition, the Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating internal production processes. Furthermore, the Engineer will be examining products to determine their quality and engaging with suppliers, customers and gathering product feedback. The role also includes maintaining the configuration management system within Simera Sense.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support and lead internal/external audits to ensure compliance with applicable requirements including AS9100, and/ or Customer specific requirements.
- Participate in design, procurement, manufacturing, testing and delivery reviews to ensure inclusion and approval of quality requirements and standards.
- Assess quality performance trends and develop Quality Improvement Plans.
- Work closely with the Engineering and Production Managers to refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles and techniques.
- Similarly, develop work instructions and inspection documents (identifying key and mandatory inspection points during production) to ensure compliance with the product, process, and system requirements.
- Lead and complete timely Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), 5-Why Analysis, or similar systematic approaches to investigate and solve product and process nonconformities.
- Analyse purchase orders, drawings and specifications to identify product and process requirements.
- Develop and lead the Quality Control functions of all incoming parts and goods.
- Likewise, develop and lead Quality Control inspection schedules and the completion of Quality Records.
- Assist the Production Manager in dealing with subassembly and product Quality matters.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Quality Plans, Quality Control Plans, and other production-related documentation for all products.
- Allocate Quality Control (QC) personnel to the various areas of the production facility.

- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of assessing engineering drawings, specifications, as well as general machining and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/ or AS9100 quality system requirements.
- Likewise, knowledge of quality engineering theories, principles, inspection techniques, tools, and equipment.
- Solution orientated, able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve a wide range of difficult problems in practice and cost-effective ways.
- Knowledge of Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), 5-Why Analysis, or similar systematic approach to problem-solving highly beneficial.
- Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience in Siemens Teamcenter is hugely beneficial.
- Ability to write clear, accurate, comprehensive, and concise documents, formatted to increase information accessibility and grammatically correct.
- Ability to read, write, communicate and/or follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to be effective in a wide variety of situations with a wide variety of personalities.
- Able to communicate information and respond to internal and external customers at all levels of an organization
- Willingness to learn the European Cooperation for Space Standardization (ECSS) guidelines and customize the implementation within the organisation.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of three years production experience or related work experience in a Quality Assurance role.
- Experience working with both engineering and production teams is advantageous.
- Minimum B.Eng. Electronics/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent).
- Finally, project management experience is beneficial.

Thus, the ability to commute/relocate is necessary. The location is Somerset West, Western Cape; however, the work will be carried out remotely temporarily due to COVID-19.
