The Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) is looking for an event photographer to capture the activities during the 19th Space Generation Congress (October 21 – 23, 2021). The successful applicant will be able to attend the Space Generation Congress (SGC) 2021 and will receive free access to the 72nd International Astronautical Congress (October 25 – 29, 2021) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Description
The SGC is the annual meeting of the Space Generation Advisory Council. It always holds in conjunction with the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) at the same hosting Country. With SGC, SGAC aims to promote the next generation of space sector leaders on the topic of international space development. By attending the SGC, delegates will learn, share their knowledge, and network with fellow students and young professionals in the space industry. Delegates will also get the opportunity to meet the industry’s leaders and experts.
Purpose/Goal of this Scholarship
This grant aims to offer a space passionate (hobby) photographer the opportunity to capture SGC 2021. Likewise, it will give them the chance to attend the 72nd IAC in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. SGAC would like to promote media and art.
Requirements
The applicants must have their photography equipment and a portfolio with at least ten pictures from events. Applicants can find photos from another SGAC event here as an example.
Award
The award is a scholarship to help cover the costs incurred to attend the SGC. Furthermore, the scholarship will grant the applicant a free entry ticket to attend the 72nd IAC. The award will cover the expenses up to a maximum amount of USD 2,000 incurred to attend the 19th SGC and the 72nd IAC. This includes round trip travel via airfare, accommodations, visa costs, and registration fees according to the reimbursement policy.
How to Apply
To apply, applicants will need to prepare the following documents:
- A CV (maximum two pages);
- A portfolio; and
- A short essay (max 300 words) on “How you plan to enhance the visibility of the event through your work.”
All submissions must be by using the Scholarship Submission form. Furthermore, applicants should submit their documents as unlocked PDF files, include links to their portfolios, and should include their names at the top of all pages. Furthermore, the submission should follow the competition guidelines below.
Eligibility
- Participants must be eligible SGAC members (registered on the SGAC website) between the ages of 18 and 35 years as of the 21st of October, 2021;
- Participants must be amateur or professional photographers with good quality photography and editing skills;
- Furthermore, participants must be able to travel with their photography equipment;
- Participants must not have received this scholarship before;
- Competition judges and organisers are ineligible for the award; finally,
- Winners should not receive support from any other source to the event. Should the winners receive such support midway through the program, they shall inform the SGAC, who will seek a solution.
The SGAC strongly requests that applicants only apply if they are confident they can attend the SGC in person and be in the United Arab Emirates at the time of the event in August.
Submission
The language of all submissions must be English. Furthermore, applicants must make all submissions by the 5th of July 2021, 23:59 GMT. Consequently, SGAC will not consider any submission made after the deadline.
Responsibilities of the Winners
The winner shall, no later than November 30th 2021:
- Travel with their photography equipment;
- Attend the entire SGC 2021;
- Support the running of SGC 2021 by:
- Providing the following works (hereinafter “the works”):
- Taking pictures of panels, sponsors, breakout sessions, group photos, networking events;
- Shooting an event video to be edited and delivered after the event;
- Coordinating daily with SGC & Global SGAC PR&Comms Teams to release highlight pictures of the day;
- Providing the works by November 30th 2021; and
- After the event, submit a short report (2 pages excluding pictures) and a short video (1 minute) describing their experience at SGC 2021 and the 72nd IAC for inclusion on the SGAC website, newsletter or social media and that of our partners.
- Providing the following works (hereinafter “the works”):
Reimbursement
The SGAC will pay out the award after the SGC 2021 and the 72nd IAC, no later than 30 days after fulfilling all responsibilities listed above. Expectedly, the scholarship award reimbursement is upon the awardee fulfilling the scholarship requirements not later than November 30th 2020. SGAC advises the applicants against engaging in any expenses until they have formal confirmation that the SGAC has awarded the competition. Consequently, SGAC is not liable for any expenses by applicants in any case where it does not award the competition or where the competition is over the value of the awarded grant. In addition, reimbursements will follow the SGAC Scholarships Travel Policy and Reimbursement Guidelines. Applicants are to consult the Guidelines before incurring expenses.
