The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) Calls for Bids

The South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO) is looking to appoint contractors for the “Industrialisation, Production and Installation of the SKA Single Pixel Feed (SPF) Helium Service Subsystem for the MeerKAT Extension Project”.

A compulsory virtual briefing session will be held for this tender on 12 July 2021 at 10.00 AM (SAST). To register in advance for the briefing session, kindly click here. After registering, bidders will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Persons attending the clarification meeting must be duly authorised to represent the bidder. Any bid submitted by a bidder not represented at the tender briefing session will be rejected.

Bid Submission

Electronic submissions must be sent to tenders@ska.ac.za on the closing date, Monday, 2 August 2021, at 11.00 AM (SAST). Bids must be submitted in two separate electronic folders, one with the compliance and technical response and the second with the financial response.

Furthermore, technical submissions must be in searchable PDF format, while the financial response must be password protected, and the folders must be titled with the bidder’s company name and folder title. Attachments are limited to 25 MB per email.

Bidders are to send an email to tenders@ska.ac.za post submission with their passwords and confirm that their bids have been received, and SARAO will confirm this by the return of email.

Summary

South Africa (SARAO) has been responsible for managing the development of the SPF systems and the detailed designs of some of the SPF components. SARAO wants to industrialise these components to prepare for delivering these components in the construction phase, with the first production run being for the first 20 (MK+) of the 133 identical SKA Dishes of the SKA_MID design. South Africa has expressed a keen interest in delivering these components to contribute to the SKA_MID construction.
