The Kenya Space Agency (KSA) is extending a research grant opportunity for public universities to host Research Chair on space technologies and their applications. The Agency has set aside KSh 7 Million (USD 63,500) for the Research Chairs (RC) award. The awards are on 3U Nanosatellite Model Development, Land Cover Data Collection Application Development, and Small-scale Crop Mapping Application using Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML).
Thus, KSA has called for a Letter of Intent (LOI) from public universities to host its research chair for FY2021/2022. The purpose of these Research Chairs is to catalyse and promote research in Space Science and Technology in Kenyan Universities. Furthermore, it is to build Kenya’s human capacity in these disciplines.
In this regard, KSA will be offering research grants for three projects in the FY 2021/2022. The following links elaborate on each research grant: Landcover data collection application, 3U nano-satellite model, Small scale crop mapping.
The Agency intends to implement this Research Chairs Programme in Kenyan universities to contribute towards Kenya’s socio-economic development. This will be through promoting capacity building and linkages between academia and industry on space technology.
The deadline for receiving the LOI is Wednesday, 15th September 2021 at 4.00 pm to Pitman House, 4th floor P.O. Box 7046-00200 Nairobi.
