The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), has opened the ninth round of applications for the United Nations/Japan Cooperation Programme on CubeSat Deployment from the International Space Station (ISS) Japanese Experiment Module “KiboCUBE”.
KiboCUBE is part of the Satellite Development Track of UNOOSA’s Access to Space for All initiative and was launched in 2015. Since then, five teams from Kenya, Guatemala, Mauritius, Moldova, and Indonesia have successfully launched satellites, which have supported their national capacity-building efforts and the contribution of space to socioeconomic development. In addition, three teams from the Central American Integration System (SICA), Mexico, and Tunisia are developing their CubeSats for future deployment.
How to Apply
Interested teams can submit applications for the opportunity on UNOOSA’s KiboCUBE Rounds webpage until the deadline: 31 December 2025, 23:59 Central European Time (CET, UTC+1). Additionally, the KiboCUBE Academy offers webinars to support potential applicants during the application phase, which will be announced soon. UNOOSA will notify applicants of the outcome of their application by the middle of February 2026.
Government organisations, research institutes, universities, and other public organisations are eligible to apply. Additionally, UNOOSA and JAXA will select a maximum of two entities. Each selected entity will deploy a single One Unit (1U) CubeSat.
