On June 11, 2021, the Association for the Safeguarding and Promotion of the Thought of El Hadj Boubacar Gamby SAKHO (Aspp-Bgs), in partnership with the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Foundation for the Search for Peace of Yamoussoukro, will host a conference on the development of the space sector in Côte d’Ivoire.

The conference themed: “Africa in the space age, the case of Côte d’Ivoire”, aims to boost a strong development dynamic in the space sector in Côte d’Ivoire.

The conference, which is initiated mainly for the students of the National Polytechnic Institute Félix Houphouët-Boigny (INP-HB), will be held at the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny Foundation for the search for peace in Yamoussoukro. In addition, the conference will mobilise Ivorian youth to develop science and technology, especially around the space sector. The ultimate ambition is to grant scholarships to students who wish to specialise in this field.

It will also allow Aspp-Bgs to propose a “Roadmap” to the Ivorian authorities to submit the areas for reflection to implement the first feasibility studies for the design of the first nanosatellite. In addition, several key personalities from Africa and beyond working on similar projects are expected to be at this conference. They will take part, either face-to-face or by videoconference.

The personalities expected at this conference include the Senegalese astronomer and systems engineer Maram Kairé; Dr Marie Korsaga, the first woman astrophysicist in West Africa and member of the International Astronomical Union; Sébastien Perimony, author of the book “See Africa with the eyes of the future” and member of the Africa office of the Schiller Institute.

The president of the Association for the safeguard and the promotion of the Thought of El Hadj Boubacar Gamby SAKHO is Boubacar ML Fofana, and this public conference is sponsored by Naylor Ahuili Kouassi, MP for Yamoussoukro.
