Angola is organising a series of activities from 4–10 October 2022 to celebrate the World Space Week and highlight the contribution of space science and technology to the country’s sustainable development.

The event will kick start with formal addresses by the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), Engr Mário Oliveira and Director General of the National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN), Dr Zolana João.

In line with this year’s theme, “Space and Sustainability”, Angola will approach sustainability from two angles: how space benefits society and contributes to sustainable development on Earth and the constraints against the peaceful use of space.

In addition, GGPEN, as part of its mission to support sustainable development through space-based technologies, has developed three new space-based solutions, including “TECH-GEST, TECH-ECOLOGY and TECH-AGRO”. Also, GGPEN designed these space-based solutions to provide the most modern technological solutions for detecting and monitoring assets within the country.

In all, Angola will hold eight official events, which will be attended by Dr Domingos Vita (ISPTEC), Dr Wanderley Ribeiro (APPA) and specialists from GGPEN. Furthermore, the president of the Portuguese Space Agency, Engr Ricardo Conde; Dr Cláudio Melo (PT Space); Ms Hariett Brettle and Mrs Jeanne Hogenhuis (European Space Agency) will attend the events virtually.
