The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced the upcoming 2024 EO for Africa Symposium, a collaborative event focused on Earth Observation technologies for Africa. Scheduled for September 23-26, 2024, at ESA-ESRIN in Frascati, Italy, this symposium brings together key organisations in the field. Partners include the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE), the European Commission (EC), the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), and NASA. This gathering promises to be a significant platform for discussing and advancing Earth Observation initiatives relevant to Africa.
Objectives of the Symposium
- Showcase the latest R&D EO Science and Applications achievements relevant to Africa.
- Facilitate international EO R&D collaborations across Africa and Europe.
- Continue the user-driven process of capturing EO high-priority topics for future R&D and capacity development joint efforts.
- Share information about future EO missions, digital technology, and related opportunities.
- Discuss the challenges and opportunities to accelerate the integration of downstream services in operational solutions.
Participation
The 2024 EO for Africa Symposium will be conducted entirely in English, with participation in the oral and poster programmes determined by the Scientific Committee based on submitted abstracts. While no participation fee will be charged, attendees are responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses. It’s important to note that the organisers have not partnered with any travel operators for this event. Lastly, registration for the symposium is by invitation only, ensuring a focused and relevant gathering of professionals in the field of Earth Observation for Africa.
