SANSA is Hiring a Researcher (High Frequency Focus) at its Hermanus Facility

Reporting to the Science Research and Applications Manager, the researcher will undertake cutting-edge research in a space science-related field, train postgraduate students and build a research track record while contributing to growing knowledge and developing applications within SANSA.

Key Responsibilities

Key performance areas will include, but are not limited to:

1. Publish and present research results in peer-reviewed journals, local and international conferences and other appropriate channels.
2. Train and mentor postgraduate students and interns.
3. Identify opportunities for international and national collaborations and partnerships.
4. Identify funding sources and write successful proposals for research grants.
5. Contract research as required by the funder and SANSA.
6. Science Advancement and public engagement activities.

Qualifications and Experiences

The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications and experience:

1. PhD in Space Science/Space Physics/Applied Mathematics/Engineering.
2. 1-3 years’ postdoctoral experience minimum.
3. Early career research track record that demonstrates the ability to do independent research with a preference for radar studies and HF radio wave propagation.
4. Peer-reviewed publications with a preference for first-author papers.
5. Experience in delivering lectures and seminars.
6. Participation in science advancement activities with a preference for postgraduate student supervision.
7. Programming skills with a preference for Python.
8. The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional Information

1. Candidates must be willing to undergo background verification, including criminal records, credit checks, security clearances, qualifications, and competency assessments.
